Sleepytime Chamomile Latte

Your gut loves inulin, it's a wonderful prebiotic that feeds the gut - and a happy gut means a well functioning body - and much better sleep. Dr Michael Moseley (1), conducted a sleep experiment, trying lots of different remedies to improve his sleep. Out of all of the remedies he tried, using inulin powder in a drink before bedtime was most effective solution. 

Desperate for a good night sleep, I tried it and it really seems to work. Now I have woven it into this bedtime drink combining it with soothing oat milk and calming chamomile to depress the central nervous system - with a hint of vanilla for comfort.

Chamomile is frequently used as a mild sedative to calm nerves and reduce anxiety and to treat insomnia and other sleep problems (2).

Drink this beverage warm, 90 minutes to an hour before bedtime, to help you get a good night sleep (and improve your gut flora).

 

INGREDIENTS

Makes 1

1 chamomile teabag (or 1 tablespoon dried chamomile flowers)
185g/¾ cup just boiled water
1 teaspoon prebiotic powder (such as Golden Greens Organic Prebiotic Inulin Fibre)
185g/¾ cup oat milk, warm
½ teaspoon vanilla extract

METHOD

Pour the just boiled water over the dried flowers to make a herbal infusion. Leave to infuse for 7 minutes. Pour through a tea strainer to remove the flowers and add the chamomile tea to a mug with the prebiotics, warm oat milk, vanilla and any sweetener if needed. Stir well to ensure all the prebiotics have dissolved.  Serve in a warmed mug.
